Benefits

Qualifies for Induction Program
Hailey continues to season herself as an aspiring teacher, and all the work she’s done to get into and remain in her profession won’t go to waste.

Professional Success
Hailey sincerely wants to help elementary school students, especially those who struggle more than others. She’s taken another step toward living that dream.

Increased Confidence
Vanquishing her writing worries has given her the emotional boost she needs to boldly knock out the rest of her credentialing requirements.

Background

Hailey studies elementary education at The University of Nevada, and she’s trying to get into a teaching induction program. Unfortunately, she’d taken Praxis Core Writing, twice, and earned 152 and 158; she needed a 162 to pass. Before both attempts, she’d used a popular, free, online teaching platform to study. This time, she decided to take a chance and invest in a personalized program offered by a live person.

Hailey made first contact with me July 21, 2020: “I [needed] to pass the writing portion of Praxis on August 22nd. My previous scores were off by 4 points, and I would just need you to help me an hour a day maybe 3x a week till then.” Normally, having less than one month to prepare might encourage me to decline an invitation to work with someone. However, because Hailey was willing meet so often throughout the week, I was confident in my ability to help her improve her writing and earn the extra points necessary to pass Praxis Core Writing.

Process

After her diagnostic session, which lasted 2 hours, Hailey began the first of 10.58 hours on July 28, 2020. Although she mentioned that she’d struggled with writing all through elementary school, middle school, high school, and college — and that she may have a processing issue — Hailey seemed to make the same mistakes that most native US English speakers make in relation to writing based on an weak grammatical and mechanical foundation. Session-by-session, we introduced and reinforced grammatical mechanical concepts. By the time she sat for her exit exam, Hailey was able to handle the multiple choice and writing portions with few errors.

After sitting for the official exam, she wrote, “Hi, I just took my test! I feel really good about it. I was able to finish both writing portions and I used everything you taught me to do for it and the multiple choice was good too. I’ll message you again once I know my scores. I am also going to…have my sister start working with you as well!”

Hailey sat for and passed Praxis Core Writing August 25, 2020.
