Y’all, We’re Laughin’ a Bit Too Hard at This Procrastination Thing

Yeah, we know folks use jokes as coping mechanisms — me included.

I’m trying to learn to stop doing that, but as I make more and more folks aware that English, Math & More now offers accountability sessions, I’ve noticed that some folks use references to procrastination as an anchor for procrastination-related jokes.

It doesn’t help that I’ve been encouraging them by responding with ha-ha emojis.

This morning, I’d started to piggy back on a new comment someone made, but I stopped myself. I like interacting with responders, but I should do more to ease folks out of procrastination. Co-signin’ procrastination-related jokes betrays that. In the moment, though, I had fun.

Let’s get busy getting you over your academic, professional, or personal hurdles.

See what I mean?
See how I’m drivin’ the jokery?

I get it: everything’s a joke these days. We live in a crazy world; Lord knows the laughter helps, but I can’t help feelin’ that we rely on humor a bit too often. I’m even willin’ to declare that — sometimes — the jokes may be harmful.

Just hear me out.
The energy used to eek out the procrastination-related jokes could’ve been used to encourage onlookers to tackle their own long-delayed tasks or to tackle a small task related to something the joke maker’s been puttin’ off for some time.

I could be wrong, but I don’t think I am. Anyway, I’ll keep doin’ my part to provide space for folks who need respite from procrastination. If you’re a task-putter-offer (a.k.a., procrastinator), there’s space for you to get your work done.
